The most frequent question I get from people I have just met is "Why Autos?". There are many reasons why I choose to grow auto flowering cannabis. The first reason I gave them a chance was to fill in between my photo period plants. The spacing between plants for outdoor or greenhouse production with photos is a large enough area for an auto flower to grow and finish by the time the photo period plant starts taking up the space. This eliminated wasted irrigation and provided an extra harvest early in the season. The first harvest was small in comparison to the giant outdoor photos we were growing, but it quickly made up for the size with their amazing flavors! The speed and ease of harvesting also caught my attention. Chopping and hanging whole plants goes much faster and not climbing a ladder was a big bonus. After the big harvest that year we replanted the greenhouse with autos and added supplemental lighting. We took turns feeding the wood stove during the coldest months but managed to get a really nice size yield with the added hours of light. For the last ten years I have been completely hooked. These wonderful automatics can grow anywhere, anytime and give a result you will love. They do not need any special equipment, you can grow a small one (1-4 oz) in a window or on your patio. The short life cycle of 70-75 days is perfect for those who don't want to invest 6-10 months into growing a single round. And if you do have a nice set up and a green thumb they can easily reach 5-6ft in height and yield a half pound or more. Auto flowers also require very little maintenance and can be grown to harvest with no training or topping. They are susceptible to stunting so it is recommended to start them in their final pot (5-7 Gal minimum) with plenty of depth. one of the main reasons I had not grown autos before is because years ago the thc percentages were quite low on these type of strains. Mephisto Genetics in Spain over the last 10 plus years has changed that significantly. Auto flowers are now passing 30% thc and fast becoming some of the most desirable cannabis plants to grow both at home and commercially. Growing autos is like driving a stick shift, it's not really harder but it is different and you need to pay attention. Learn to grow autos and you can grow anything with ease. Happy Growing
